The workshop will be broken up into 2 sessions, morning and afternoon, and will begin with the techniques Debbie uses.  After lunch Debbie will be providing hand's on instruction as she guides you step by step through a small project!

Paper and pencils will be provided by the Sharpened Artist Studio and Debbie will supply the line image, reference photo, and written instructions.

This Beginner's Colored Pencil Workshop will introduce to the techniques used by colored pencil artists to create stunning results. 

The cost is only $60 per student.

Ohio native and Clinton County resident, Debbie Hook, has been painting for more than 35 years.  During this time, her creative outlet has taken on many facets and has helped to shape the artist she is today.  This deep love for art and genuine passion for her subject matter, gives her the belief that she is the one being created with each new work and experience.

Realism is the genre of her works, depicting landscapes, portraits, still life, and floral.  Her work is accomplished through the mediums of colored pencil, oils, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, and graphite.   

Debbie gives private instruction for adults in most mediums and conducts workshop in the art and techniques of colored pencil.  In addition to private instruction, she teaches art at the Wilmington Christian Academy.  She served two years as an adjunct art instructor for Southern State Community College in Wilmington, Ohio.  Her teaching places emphasis on strong drawing skills, which she believes is the backbone of any work.  One of her students recently expressed, “Debbie displays great patience and encouragement in her classes”  
Debbie developed a summer art program for children holding two art camps each summer for 5 years in Wilmington, Ohio.  

Besides creating a fun experience, the goal was to expose young people to a variety of art mediums and processes. Debbie has held art classes for the Firefly group, which is a summer arts program for children. Debbie is on staff as the art teacher at the Clinton County Christian Academy in Wilmington, Ohio.  

Debbie has received numerous awards and honors for her works of art.  She has been accepted into the International juried Colored Pencil Society of America exhibition twice to date.  One of those entries received an Award of Excellence.  She has received a number of Best of Shows and high placements in area art exhibitions in Clinton, Highland, and Jackson Counties.

Her work has been showcased in solo exhibitions through the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Highland County Community Library, Southern State Community College, Centerville, Ohio Community Art Exhibition Center, Chillicothe Pump House Gallery , and Markay Gallery in Jackson, Ohio.  She was also chosen for an exhibit at Wilmington College, which featured 3 women artists of Clinton County. Debbie’s art is part of permanent art collections at all three campuses of Southern State Community College and Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, Ohio.  Her work also is part of private collections throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and Alaska.

Debbie is active in several art circles.  She is currently serving on the national governing board of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA)   She served 2 terms as the president of the CPSA District Chapter of Greater Cincinnati and was the driving force to bring the national CPSA convention to the Cincinnati area in 2012.  She served two terms as president of the Brush and Palette Art Guild in southern Ohio as well as president of the South Western Ohio Art league.
